James Dasaolu insists he will be fit and ready for the IAAF World Championships in two weeks time despite missing out on his much anticipated 100m showdown with Jamaica’s Usain Bolt at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Stadium last Friday.

The 25-year-old Croydon Harrier withdrew from the evening’s London Anniversary Games Diamond League showpiece event after feeling a tight hip flexor during the warm-up.

“I’m sorry for those who were looking forward to the race,” said Dasaolu.

“Everything was lined up for a great race but the tightness in my hip during warm-up couldn’t be ignored.”

However Dasaolu, who clocked 9.91 seconds at the British Championships to became the second fastest Briton of all time to Linford Christie, is determined to get to Moscow for the start of his 100m World Championships campaign which begins on August 10.

“I am running fast this summer because I’ve made smart decisions with my coach over the past 18 months and we’re not going to change that approach with the World Championships just two weeks away," he added.

“Come Moscow I’ll be ready to go because we have made tough decisions like the one we made here.”

The fastest man in the world, Bolt, returned to the venue where he captured three Olympic London 2012 golds with a comfortable 9.85 victory.

Another Croydon-based athletes heading to the Russian capital is James Ellington and completed his preparations by finishing a disappointing eighth in men’s 200m with a time of 20.42 in a race won by Jamaica’s Warren Weir in 19.89.

“I’ve just been non-stop training after the British Championships but I’m ready for the World Championships,” said Ellington.

“I’m really looking for it, I can’t wait to get there.”
