Leatherhead Golf Club’s Michael Lowe has teed off at the Powerade PGA Assistants’ Championship, in his efforts to be the best man for the second time in a week.
At the time of going to press, Lowe, who turned pro in 2007, was three under par after the first of three rounds in the £32,500 final, with the last round set for tomorrow [Friday] at Coventry Golf Club.
He will be looking to build on his performance at last year’s event which was hosted at East Sussex National, where he tied for eighth spot.
But just days before he travelled to Coventry, Lowe had an important family role to play.
He said: “The only thing I had to think about in terms of the preparation was my brother’s wedding a couple of days beforehand, for which I was the best man.”
Lowe was disappointed with his performances last year, but he has been enjoying a more fruitful 2013.
“I wasn’t playing that well at all last year, I had no wins whereas this year I’ve won seven events already,” he said.
“I suppose the eighth place in the Powerade was probably one of my best performances of the season, but I didn’t even play well in that, I had a bad final round.
“This year, though, I’m feeling better and when I look at some of the favourites for the event, I’d like to think I could compete with them.”
