Kew Cricket Club may need to be careful of what they wish for after securing the Thames Valley League Division One title this season and promotion to the Home Counties Premier League, writes Stuart Amos.
Fast bowler Kidron Thomas claimed figures of 5-31 and Nishel Odedra hit 51 not out as Kew beat Marlow to lift the crown ahead of Datchet on the final day of the season.
At the same time, NPL Teddington were lifting the Division Five title with alive wicket win over second-placed Royal Ascot – a 13th success of a 15-match league campaign.
The success ends a run of form that has seen skipper Simon Tomlinson’s men relegated in five of the past eight seasons since reaching the same league Kew will find themselves in next term.
But that cautionary tale did not stop Kew club captain Nathan Pearce from savouring the moment.
“It’s a huge honour to win the league with this bunch of lads,” he said.
“Next year will be a big test, but we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
