If Surrey return to the LV= County Championship top flight as Division Two champions and lift the Royal London One Day Trophy the success may have been made in Weybridge.
Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara’s unbeaten 166 set up Monday’s four-run cup semi-final win over Nottinghamshire, but brothers Tom and Sam Curran also played crucial roles at the Oval.
Tom, the senior partner at 20 years old, bagged the key run-out of Notts batsman Greg Smith for 124 with 2.5 overs remaining as his side fell just short of Surrey’s 300 for eight.
And 17-year-old Sam claimed two wickets in successive deliveries at the top of the order.
The pair, born in South Africa and Northampton respectively, have played 12 games for the Hanger Hill club between them over the past three seasons to varying degrees of success.
Meanwhile brother Ben notched 512 Surrey Championship Premier Division runs this summer as skipper Sarel Erwee’s men finished their league campaign in third behind champions Sunbury – who they beat by five wickets on Saturday’s final day.
Surrey face Gloucestershire in next Saturday’s showpiece final at Lord’s, but before that the Division Two leaders face second-placed Lancashire in the County Championship – starting on Monday.
Zafar Ansari, who played 19 times for Weybridge between 2007 and 2012, has scored more than 1,000 runs in all competitions for Surrey this year and has taken 44 first class wickets.
Sam Curran claims the second of his two wickets in the win over Nottinghamshire
