Head coach Ed Sinclair hailed Teddington Swimming Club’s strength in depth as the club collected 17 medals – including five gold – during the second weekend of the Middlesex County Swimming Championships.
Lady Elanor Holles School’s Sophie Fussell, 14, led the way with two golds (14-year-old girls’ 100m and 100m breaststroke), while Orleans School student Sophie Johnson set a new 100m backstroke personal best of one minute 5.76 seconds to claim gold in the 15-year-old girls’ final.
Teddington School’s Thalia Poaros, 15, was crowned 15-year-old girls’ 400m individual medley champion with clubmate Freya Shaw finishing third.
Shaw also secured a silver in the 100m individual medley to go with her 100m breaststroke silver and 200m breaststroke bronze, with Poaros also finishing third in the 400m freestyle.
Oscar Aydin, 16, completed the golden haul as he won the 15 and over boys’ 200m breaststroke.
“We really stepped up this weekend, putting a swimmer in almost every final,” said former Olympian Sinclair.
“This really shows good depth throughout all age groups, with the new generation of TSC swimmers also emerging – this is really good to see.”
There were silvers for Brandon Sayers, Eddie Hunt, Jessica Mayer, Lucy Bishop and Tom Park, while Teo Bainbridge, Rhea Poaros and Oscar Jones claimed bronze medals.
