NICOLA Romberg paid tribute to Kingston Royals Swimming Club this week after son Benny struck gold at the London Youth Games.
The 10-year-old Christ Church Primary School student, representing the Royal Borough of Kingston, won the open age group 50m backstroke at the Para Mini Swimming Championships at Crystal Palace last week.
Romberg, who took up the sport aged five, clocked 46.07 seconds – a new personal best for the distance – and his mum knows the secret to his success.
“Kingston have been very inclusive and have never treated Benny any different to his peers,” she said.
“He has made great friends and the coaches are very supportive. Over the years we have been supported by a charity called REACH.
“Benny has become a great role model to promote REACH’s motto: it’s ability not disability that matters.”
Royals head coach Damien Bryan added: “Benny, above, is an enthusiastic and dedicated swimmer who loves to race.
“We are really proud of Benny and his achievements at London Youth Games 2016, he has a great attitude and always does his best and it’s a pleasure to see him compete with such integrity.”
