SURBITON star Georgie Twigg says a miserable Champions Trophy campaign has made Team GB’s hockey women determined to medal at the 2016 Olympics.
Great Britain, who started the tournament ranked sixth in the world, won only one game – Sunday’s 4-3 fifth and sixth place play-off triumph over New Zealand – suffering pool defeats to the Kiwis, Holland, Australia and the USA, plus a draw with Argentina.
Done enough: Surbiton's Georgie Twigg is looking forward to her trip to Brazil
Twigg and clubmates Hollie Webb and Giselle Ansley were this week named in the British squad bound for Brazil in August, where they hope to better the bronze medal they won at the 2012 London Games.
“The tournament did not go as we would have hoped, but we have stayed strong as a squad and have learned lots,” she said.
“It has made us even hungrier to do well out in Rio.”
She added: “I’m absolutely over the moon and so excited to be selected. It is an exciting couple of months ahead.”
