Surbiton Hockey Club’s men’s captain Chris Grassick under went knee surgery on the same day the club’s Team GB heroes Georgie Twigg, Hollie Webb and Giselle Ansley were welcomed home at Heathrow airport.
The 25-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament on international duty with Scotland in July and went under the surgeon’s knife on Monday, meaning he is set to miss the forthcoming Men’s Hockey League Premier Division campaign.
Twigg, Webb and Ansley were aboard a chartered British Airways flight from Brazil that touched down in London on Monday along with the rest of Team GB’s record-breaking Olympic squad.
“Thank you @British_Airways for looking after us so well! Very excited to be back on home soil! #greattobeBAck,” tweeted Twigg.
