Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harrier Pippa Earley may have dwelt a little longer in her blocks as she claimed U17 girls’ 80m hurdles silver at the UK Schools Games in Loughborough on Friday.
The 16-year-old, who was disqualified from last week’s English Championships final in Bedford for a false start, clocked 11.44 seconds to finish second behind champion Jade O’Dowda.
It was double woe for Earley as O’Dowda’s winning time of 11.27secs became the UK’s fastest in the event this year, shaving 0.01secs off Earley’s previous best.
Walton Athletics Club’s Sam Mace completed his summer by collecting a bronze medal in the U17 boys’ hammer despite being one of the youngest competitors in the field.
The 15-year-old threw a personal best 60.64m to finish third and add to his Surrey County Championship silver medal he won at Kingsmeadow earlier in the summer.
Double: Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harrier Neil Wellard felt the need for speed in Bushy Park last week
Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harrier Neil Wellard streaked home to his second Bushy Park parkrun win in eight attempts on Saturday.
The 18-year-old Surrey U20 men’s 3,000m champion clocked 15 minutes 59 seconds to lead the 1,200-strong field home.
Clubmate Phoebe Law, who finished 20th in the women’s 5,000m at the British Athletics Championships in July, crossed the line in 17:34 to be the first woman home in seventh.
Chorlton Runners’ Jon Harrison triumphed on his first appearance at the Kingston parkrun in 17:21.
