Former Olympic hockey star Matt Daly marked his final game for Surbiton Hockey Club with his 200th domestic goal for the club on Sunday.
The 33-year-old called time on a 16-year association with the Sugden Road outfit by scoring a late equaliser in a 2-2 Men’s Hockey League Premier Division draw at Hampstead.
Daly will also be remembered for appearances at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics with Great Britain and helping his country to a EuroHockey Championship gold medal in 2009.
The Twickenham-based Kingston Grammar School teacher scored 58 goals in 156 international appearances for Team GB and England.
“Thanks for a fantastic 16 years with us Matt and good luck in the future,” tweeted a club official on Monday.
Olympic gold medalist Georgie Twigg made her first appearance of the season for Surbiton’s women as they came from 1-0 down to win 3-2 at the University of Birmingham.
Jo Hunter, Emily Defroand and Sarah Page were the goal scorers.
