Croydon Harriers runner Martyn Rooney showed he has benefited from recent warm weather training in Lanzarote with two sharp indoor sprints at the weekend, writes Mike Fleet.
At well over 6ft 6in, 400m specialist Rooney is certainly not cast in the specialist sprint mould of contemporary Craig Pickering, who shone for Britain in Stuttgart with a 6.58 seconds 60m win.
But Rooney, a student at Loughborough University, was well satisfied with his two winning runs of 7.24 seconds and 7.19 seconds on home territory - equalling then bettering their personal best.
