A golf-mad nine-year-old is celebrating after shooting a hole-in-one during a round at Addington Court Golf Centre.

Harry Deans achieved the feat with a three-wood on the par three 100-yard first hole at the nine-hole Croydon complex last week.

Delighted dad Hughie, who was playing with his son, said: "I was absolutely thrilled, I couldn't believe it.

"There were half a dozen people waiting to play behind us and a handful more on the second hole.

"When they realised Harry had a hole-in-one they all started cheering and congratulating him.

"As it was the day before my birthday it was the perfect present."

General manager Glen Halsey said Harry was the youngest player to have shot a hole-in-one at Addington Court.

"I am thrilled for Harry. It is a fantastic achievement for anyone, let alone someone of his age," he said.

"We have a hole-in-one at the centre about twice a year, but we've never had a nine-year-old shoot one."

Glen has given the youngster a year's free junior membership in recognition of his impressive achievement.

And, although it's traditional for anyone shooting a hole-in-one to buy a round of drinks for everyone in the clubhouse, young Harry was not obligated to spend his pocket money.

Instead, the nine-year-old is celebrating his success by buying a new wood with his Christmas money.

Harry, from Beckenham, has been obsessed with golf since he took up the sport at the age of four.

He has weekly golf lessons with his friend, Oliver, and the pair play as often as possible.

Addington Court Golf Centre is one of the top golfing venues in Southern England, boasting an 18-hole championship course.
