Belgrave Harriers high jumper Samson Oni produced the male performance of the match at the Indoor Inter-City Challenge at Cardiff on Saturday.
Oni had spectators captivated in the closing stages of the high jump, which he won with a leap of 2.25m to go to the top of this year's UK rankings.
Jumping on his own after his last challenger was eliminated at 2.14m, Oni tried unsuccessfully for a personal best of 2.30m. His current best is 2.28m.
"I came here to get 2.30m and made pretty decent attempts at it," said Oni. "I am definitely looking for 2.30 next week in Sheffield and to get qualification for the Olympics."
His reward for producing the best male performance of the meeting was an Adidas kit package worth £500.
Two other London South team winners were Herne Hill Harriers' Channelle Garnett in the women's 60m hurdles and Surrey high jumper Charis O'Connor.
O'Connor won with 1.78m before unsuccessfully attempting a lifetime best of 1.81m.
She said: "I have had a good winter season so I am feeling positive.
"I broke my foot two years ago so last year was a transition back to competition."
London South face London North, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Bristol, Sheffield, Birmingham and Manchester in the Indoor City Challenge final on at Sheffield on February 17.
