Herne Hill Harriers had a golden day in Richmond to suit the glorious sunshine when the men leapfrogged to the front of the Surrey cross-country league to win on the day and take the title with 730 points to Thames Hare and Hounds' 736 after four matches over the season.
And the women won their first cross-country league match for five years. Hannah Edwards also starred with a win in the Under 17 race where she out thought and out sprinted an English Schools track champion.
In the Men's event Keith Newton scored a remarkable double when he won the best overall trophy for a senior man and the overall trophy for the best veteran - over 40 as well. The red and black hooped scorers were Kevin Quinn third, Keith Newton sixth, Iain Lockett seventh, Ben Paviour 10th, Dave Robinson 16th, Alan Barnes 18th, Rob Karn 21st, Andy Dunwoody 22nd, James Jarvis 24th and Deron Fagan in 25th out of a field of 180.
Herne Hill's winning women's team comprised Karen Elison seventh, Helen Hadjam 12th, Clare Pauzers 14th, Caroline Warrington 24th and Monique Davis 29th out of 154 to finish. Monique also won the overall Under 20 award with Jmaela Brookes second. Herne Hill were also top B team.
