Celebrations were understandably muted for Surbiton's Tim Pinnock when he converted a last-gasp penalty corner for a 1-0 win over his former club Canterbury on Saturday.

The match was Surbiton's first after the National Premier Division three-month winter break.

The defeat was harsh on the visitors who, despite sitting bottom of the 10-team elite league, created more chances than Surbiton.

However, South African debutant goalkeeper Duncan Holmes made two diving stick saves to keep his clean sheet.

Pinnock had already hit both posts for Surbiton before he clinched the win with the last strike of the match.

US international Andrew Sheridan returns from international duty for Surbiton's trip to Beeston on Sunday.

Britain's most capped player, Brett Garrard, has tendonitis so has been left out of the 19-man squad to travel to Chile this Friday.

However, Britain's bad news is good news for Surbiton since Garrard has been given permission to play for his club in a bid to get fully fit.

He has been told he is still in with a chance of Olympic selection should GB qualify from the six-country qualifying competition, which takes place in Santiago from March 1-9.

His six England international clubmates - Richard Alexander, Matt Daly, Ben Hawes, Ben Marsden, Rob Moore and James Alexander - are all travelling to Chile.
