Feltham-based Rajiv Ouseph has become the first badminton player of Indian origin to win the men's singles title at the English National Championships.
Ouseph, the 21-year-old former European champion beat former champion Aamir Ghaffir in the final at the Velodrome in Manchester.
Ouseph, who had been a semi-finalist three times before, won his first national title 21-15, 12-21, 21-11.
Ghaffar had made a big effort in the second game, but it took its toll, as Ouseph opened up an 11-1 lead in the decider.
Ouseph said: "I had a couple of tough games along the way against another previous national champion Mark Constable but I am really pleased to have won.
"In my head I had a massive celebration in mind but in the end I was just glad it was over."
"Hopefully, I can get into the main draw at next month's All England and cause a couple of upsets."
Ouseph is this week in Holland representing England in the Thomas Cup against other European countires.
He trains at Milton Keynes, during the week days with England coaches Ian Wright, Asgar Masden and Tom John.
His two sisters, Rajani and Reshmi, both play badminton for Middlesex at Hounslow Badminton Centre.
