Herne Hill Harriers' Michael Wheeler put a whole new meaning to "no pain, no gain" in the men's U17 shot putt at the English Indoor Age Group Championships at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena.
He defied a painful ligament injury to his right ankle to heave the shot out to 19.06m in the sixth and final round.
He obliterated the championship record of 18.40m set by Carl Myerscough in 1996 and the UK mark of 18.42m by Belgrave's Chris Gearing in 2002.
Wheeler reckoned his strapped-up injury actually helped him concentrate on getting his feet into the right place.
Herne Hill had a sizeable contingent at the event.
Khalil Njoya took silver in the boys' U15 shot (14.29m), with Blade Ashby second in the boys' U15 60m hurdles (8.61), even though he had only scraped through his qualifying heat.
Sylvester Akpalara was third in the boys' U15 800m (2:07.95), but failed to finish the 200m final after posting the fastest heat time (23.66).
Matthew Walcott was sixth in the men's U17 60m hurdles (8.44), while Julien Allwood was fourth and eighth in the U17 triple and long jump (13.74 and 6.02m) respectively.
Jennifer Honeyball was 10th in the junior women's pole vault (3m) and Rosa Williams seventh in the junior women's pole vault (3.20m).
Sutton's Amelia Richards was 11th in the women's U17 long jump (4.45m).
Hercules Wimbledon's Jermain Olsasun was 11th in the junior men's triple jump (6.54m).
