Croydon Harriers’ Natasha Danvers continued her good form with a victory over Jamaica’s Olympic champion Melanie Walker in the 400m hurdles at the Reebok New York Grand Prix on Saturday.
The 31-year-old Beijing Olympic bronze medallist posted a winning time of 55.19 seconds, with Nickiesha Wilson (55.28) pipping compatriot Walker (55.29) into second.
“It was a good performance for me,” said Danvers, a former St Leonards Streatham and Sydenham school pupil and the daughter of Brixton’s former English Schools sprint hurdles champion Don Danvers.
“We know that Melaine (Walker) can run 52 in her sleep.”
“When you have the Olympic champion in the race, you are always aware of the potential threat.
“At the end of the day, I had to stay focused in your lane so that's what I did.”
