Morden’s Lee Cook admits he will be taking a huge risk when he steps between the ropes for a hastily-arranged six round fight this weekend.
Cook, the Southern Area lightweight champion, will face Ireland’s Mark McCullough in a non-title bout at York Hall as he looks to stay active.
But the double-glazing installer accepts things could go horribly wrong.
Cook said: “In boxing in any fight you could get caught with a good shot and stopped - but any boxer knows that.
“I will be defending the title again in September and my manager wanted me to stay out of the ring until then but I want to stay busy.
“I have had enough lay-offs because of injury so now I am fit and active I want to make the most of it.
“I just have to keep winning as that is the only way I am going to get where I want to be, which is more title fights.”
McCullough has had just eight fights claiming five wins in a brief career is seen as a stop-gap opponent for Cook as he looks to maintain the form he showed in outclassing Shane Watson in March.
And Cook reckons he just needs to concentrate on getting his own house in order.
He added: “I have really trained hard for this fight and for me it is all about transferring that work in the gym into the ring.
“I do not know much about McCullough but we will be getting a video this week and I will be looking at it with my trainer.
“But as far as I am concerned I just need to do what I have to do and I am confident that I will win.”
