Girls dominated the record-breaking table in the annual Surrey Schools Track and Field Championships at Kingsmeadow Stadium on Saturday.
Epsom schoolgirl Isabel Brinsden had the unique experience of losing and gaining a record on the same day.
She smashed the senior girls’ 3,000m record in winning in 10 minutes, 19.04 seconds, eclipsing the 11:17:05 set by Central Surrey’s Emma Benedict last year.
However, she saw the intermediate girls’ 3,000m mark of 10:01.35, which she set in 2008, just bettered by top Howard of Effingham runner Emelia Gorecka with 10:00.89.
North East Surrey’s Laura Burke broke the intermediate record of 44.7 set by Merton’s Yve Ige in 1996 in winning the 300m hurdles in 44.05.
A fourth record to fall came in the intermediate 300m, where North West Surrey’s Amy Allock won in 39.19 to improve on the 39.75 in winning the title last year.
Final selections for the Surrey team to compete in the English Schools Championships at Don Valley Stadium next month will be made after a junior and intermediate match against Hampshire, Essex, Kent and Buckinghamshire at Southampton tomorrow.
