Will Sharp insists that Harlequins RL are still not firing on all cylinders, despite the Stoop side having the chance to climb to second in the Super League table this weekend.

The pacy winger marked signing a one-year contract extension with a brace of tries as Quins romped to a 40-10 win at Hull KR last Friday in front of the Sky cameras.

But ahead of a heavyweight clash with Leeds on Saturday, Sharp reckons there is still plenty of room for improvement.

He said: “It might sound strange but I still don’t think we are actually playing our best rugby.

“There is still a long way for us to go and we are always looking to improve.

“We have been getting the results but we have not been performing how we want and a lot of the wins have been down to our defence.

“But we are in a great position and now is the time for us to pick things up.”

Sharp has signed a deal that keeps him in London until the end of the 2010 season and he admits he aims to stay a lot longer.

He added: “To be honest I wish they would have offered me a longer deal as if they had I would definitely taken it.

“The way it has worked out this time next year I will be going through the same process again.

“I want to stay here much longer than that and now I need to prove I deserve to.”

Sharp’s brace at Craven Park was only his second and third tries of the campaign and the 23-year-old admits the change in style has taken some getting used to.

He added: “Last year when Scott Hill was in the line-up I was getting the ball a lot quicker and so had many more chances.

“But this year with Luke Dorn there he likes to make a break himself and sometimes I am not getting the ball at all.

“But I have always said that the team doing well is better than me doing well and we have scored a lot more tries as a team so I can live with that.”
