Hanworth-based Gary Gibson has qualified for the final of the Ronacrete People’s Open Golf Championship at Turnbury on September 23.
The 20-year-old, who works in a bar to pay for his bar lessons, finished his qualifying round at his home course of Hampton Court Palace Golf Club with a remarkable 40-point total.
Gibson, who plays off a four handicap, took up golf just before his 16th birthday and his ambition is to become a scratch golfer and then turn professional.
“It is going to be an awesome challenge - I can't wait to get onto the course at Turnberry,” said Gibson.
“The idea of a People's Open Golf Championship is a brilliant idea. It gives ordinary golfers the chance to try their luck on some of the greatest courses in the country."
