Having your name in the record books is reward enough for landing a new British record fish but Surrey angler Phil Morton’s new record silver bream comes with a £7,500 bonus.
The fireman insures his tackle with Tacklewise, who offered the bonus to policy holders. As soon as the fish is accepted by the record committee, his cheque will be on its way.
Morton targeted the silver bream at Mill Farm Fishery, but had to wade through loads of carp and tench before he made contact with the 2lb 14oz British best.
Morton, who can also be found behind the counter at Surbiton Angling Centre, tempted the new record with carp company XTC paste.
This is a very sad day for me as this will be my final column.
Over the past 13 years, thousands of fishermen have rung me to report their catches and I must say a sincere thank you to all of them.
The lyears seem have flown by, but all good things must come to an end. To all my regular readers, thanks, and my very best wishes to you all.
