Weybridge skipper Abeed Janmohamed has admitted the performances of players like all-rounder Darren Livett have handed him a selection headache as he bids to secure Surrey Championship Premier Division safety.

Weybridge Vandals fly-half Livett, playing only his third first team game since his debut earlier this month, claimed the first two wickets to fall in Saturday’s clash with Guildford, before helping his captain complete a rearguard action to salvage a losing draw with an undefeated 25-run stand.

The visitors posted a daunting 274 for nine at Hanger Hill with Andy Hollingsworth smashing 107, but Janmohamed’s 52 not out ensured his side extended their recent undefeated run to four games.

Weybridge, in their first season back in the Premier Division since claiming the Division One title last year, have chosen not to employ an overseas player this summer confident they have enough home grown quality to stay up.

And Janmohamed, who welcomed ex-Worcestershire batsman Will Gifford to his line-up at the weekend, reckons the return of a host of first team regulars will give him food for thought over the coming weeks.

“A few of our talented youngsters will be returning from school and university over the coming weeks so availability is getting stronger. Despite that we have still been getting reasonable results.” he said.

“Darren has got a bit about him, is always very positive and great to have on the field. He wants to win really badly, which I’d imagine is what he is like on the rugby pitch.

“He has done a great job for us over the last couple of weeks. There are going to be a few selection problems coming up, but they are nice problems to have.”

Sutton continued their seemingly unstoppable march to the league title with their sixth win of the season as they beat Spencer by 57 runs at Cheam Road on Saturday.

David Sampson’s 53 proved the difference between the two sides as he put on 97 with opener Zoheb Sharif (42) to help the hosts post a below par 207 all out.

A fine all-round bowling display saw Andy Sartor, Bilal Butt, David Mitchell and Sharif claim two wickets each to dismiss the visitors for 150.

A 118-run seventh wicket stand between Reyno Norval (73) and skipper Giles Puckle (78) saw Malden Wanderers recover from 88-6 to secure an improbable winning draw against Wimbledon.

The pair’s efforts helped their side to 260 all out before a superb spell of 5-67 from Simon Crampton pegged back the visitors to 207 for eight.

Banstead let Reigate Priory off the hook as they lost by 78-runs on Saturday, despite having had the hosts 16-3 with Surrey star Chris Murtagh and former Brown Cap Jason Roy back in the hutch.

Priory recovered to post 211 all-out before Daryl King blew the visitors away with 5-51 to claim the points.
