A good second on Sunday against fifth placed City of Norwich AC in the Southern Premier is unlikely to be good enough to earn Croydon Harriers Young athletes a Cup Final slot.

With just one match remaining the hopes for a home win disappeared with too many blanks on the team sheet plus an unfortunate relay disqualification.

Apart from excellent team spirit, most notable on the credit side was the astonishing sprinting of 12-year-old Kenny Konrad whose winning 100m time of 11.98sec rocketed him to second in the UK All Time rankings.

He also clocked a top 200m time when he won in 25.63, which sees him sixth in the UK 2009 lists.

Two other U13s shone at Grade 1 level. Joshua Haasz did so twice, with a characteristic runaway 1500m in 4.36.5 and a 1.45m winning high jump. Long jumper Aaron Adekoya leapt a prodigious 4.84m to win the long jump.

Anthony Cumming clocked a crisp 13.86 to win the U17 100m hurdles with high jumper Harry Rogers 1.85m the clubs other winner in that section.

At U15 level, Josh Atille dominated the sprints with clear wins in 11.37 and 23.13, while Omari Carr-Miller cruised to 400m victory in 53.86.

Peter Chambers although hotly pursued was always in control in the 1500m which he won in 4:21.25.

Cleo Patrice Barbour took the U17 women’s 100m in 12.69 and Kayon Christie charged home well clear to take the 300m victory in 42.54.

Stephanie Montague won the U15 discus in a tight tussle at 21.91m and the talented U13 Shirin Irving top scored with two wins, finishing almost 1.5 seconds clear she took the 70m hurdles in 12.19 and her winning shot put was also outstanding at 8.51m.
