The women stole the show at Ashford Bowling Club this week, winning their Top Club Competition clash with Bishops Duppas to go through to the quarter-finals.

This match was always going to be a closely contested affair and the crowd were not disappointed.

Bishop Duppas won the singles 21-20 but Ashford responded with a 19-17 victory in the fours.

The triples finished next, with Ashford winning 16-11.

That set up an enthralling finish, with Bishop Duppas having a seven-shot lead in the pairs and needing a win to secure at least a draw.

However, the Ashford pair battled on and, although unable to win, they managed to pull back one shot to finish 12-18.

That left proceedings at two wins each, and shots even as well at 67-67.

The pairs, triples and fours then had to play an extra end each to determine the winner.

The fours finished first, with Bishop Duppas winning. Ashford then won the triples to again level the match.

The pairs finished last and silence surrounded the ground as Ashford's Jan Adams bowled the last wood of the game.

The score was one shot to Bishop Duppas but Adams bowled a brilliant last wood to claim the winning shot and put Ashford through.
