Hampton twins Charlotte and Amy Wells both hope success at the upcoming European Softball Championships will further their dream of one day playing in the United States.

The girls, both 15, will be lining up for Great Britain when the U-16 tournament gets underway in Alkmaar, Holland on July 13.

And Charlotte has her sights set on making it big.

She said: “My dream is to go to an American University on a softball scholarship.

“The thing I love best about playing softball is the chance to go away and travel the world and that would be the ultimate.

“We have been to the Czech Republic, Holland and Italy, and when we went to America earlier this year it was amazing.

“But first we have the Euros and I think we can do well.

“I don’t think we will win it, but we are all looking to get at least fourth.”

The sporty twins, who both attend Waldegrave School, have also represented Middlesex at football, rugby and numerous other sports.

But for Amy, softball tops the lot.

She said: “I love softball as a sport as it is so fast and competitive.

“We both started playing when we were 11 when our schoolteacher took lessons and we became good at it pretty quickly.”

So to the obvious questions - how easy is it to play alongside a twin sister and how much confusion does it cause?

Charlotte, who plays shortstop/second base and also pitches, added: “It is quite good actually as we push each other on to do better.

“I don’t know which one of us is the better player - I don’t think it matters.”

Amy chips in: “It does cause a bit of a problem - but only for the opposition teams! I think they get a bit confused when they see us standing next to each other and don’t know which is which.”
