Lenny Daws has the perfect incentive to get back into training - a high-profile clash with British and Commonwealth light-welterweight champion Ajose Olusegun in September.
The Morden fighter has stepped out of the ring in recent weeks to be at his wife’s side as she gave birth to their third child, daughter Millie, at St Helier hospital.
And Lenny admits everything else has had to take a back seat in the Daws household.
He said: “All my training plans have pretty much gone out of the window.
“With everything that has happened I haven’t even been able to get out of the bed in the morning.
“But everything has gone well with Millie, and I should be back in training in the next week.
“I usually train at home but that isn’t really an option for me at the moment, so I will probably go and workout at Rosehill.”
Daws, who claimed the English title in April, had been looking to break back into the big time and promoter Mick Hennessy has come up trumps, setting up the clash with the unbeaten Olusegun.
And the 30-year-old accepts Olusegun, ranked number five in the world by the WBC, presents a difficult obstacle.
He added: “I think I can safely say this is the biggest fight of my life.
“Olusegun is a dangerous fighter and he is very highly rated.
“But this is too good an opportunity for me to turn down.
“If I win it would put me right up there and set me up for much bigger things.
“It is a risk, but it is a risk worth taking.
“It is a fight that really I have to win, and it is one that I know I can win.”
