South London Harriers came second in the men’s Southern League track and field match at Hastings at the weekend competing against a very strong winning Blackheath team.
Exceptional efforts in the jumping, throwing and sprinting events however gave them the advantage over Hastings and QPH to finish with a final match score of Blackheath 133, SLH 91, Hastings 67 and QPH 57.
Runners from SLH were among the top 25 finishers in the midweek Reigate 10km road race.
David Baker was fifth in 36.21, Mark Burtwell sixth in 36.56, Alex Halpin eighth in 37.23, Antonio Martins 19th in 39.29 and Martin Mabbutt 24th in 40.35.
This Saturday (July 18) SLH organise the seven-mile Elmore road race held in conjunction with the annual Chipstead Flower Show, which celebrates its centenary this year.
This is a charity event with all proceeds going to the local Dyscover organisation. The race starts at 2pm and entries will be accepted on the day.
