Twickenham racer Simon Low insists a terrifying 100mph at Snetterton at the weekend will not put him off appearing on the bill at the Moto GP later this month.

The 22-year-old mechanic crashed out at Riches Corner in Saturday’s qualifying session for rounds eight and nine of this year’s Thundersport GB GP3 125cc championship and was lucky to come away with just severe concussion in Norfolk.

Low’s first session had put him fifth on the grid, but disaster in the second saw him and his Tippett’s backed SLR Honda RS ruled out of a race he had been looking to win to go into next week’s glamour trip to Donnington in flying form.

“I can’t remember anything about the crash or how it happened all I remember is the bike landing on top of me and waking up 20 minutes later in the medical centre on a spinal board and in a neck brace,” he said.

“It was pretty scary at the time when I woke up and was told not to move, but as soon as I was able to sit up at hospital and I was told I hadn’t broken anything my first thought was getting back on the bike.”

Low, who is confident the smash was just something that happens in racing, is hoping to be fit for the next round at Donnington and is determined not to let the set-back ruin his season.

“It was frustrating because everything had been going so well, and when I watched the race on Sunday I knew I could beat the lap times the leaders were doing,” he added.

“The bike has come off better than me and is actually ready to race as it is - I think I broke its fall.

“We can’t let it hamper our season. The lap times are getting better and now we are really looking like we are getting close to a race win.”
