In last Saturday’s Elmore 7 Road Race, South London Harriers’ Stuart Major recorded his seventh victory in fine style, finishing in 37.51 minutes, two minutes clear of the second- placed runner, Epsom & Ewell’s Ian Sanger.

Justin Macenhill from Striders of Croydon was third in 40.11 followed closely by SLH’s David Ogden, fourth (first st mv50) in 40.15.

Previous winner, Carl Plumpton from City of Portsmouth AC, was fifth (1st mv40) in 40.23.

First mv60 runner was SLH’s Dave Newland, 86th in 51.26.

The Women’s race was won by Victoria Foad of Sutton Runners in a time of 46.27 with Phyllis Flynn (lv45) from Stragglers in second place in 47.03. SLH’s Pippa Major (lv40) was third in 47.49.

This popular charity event is held in conjuction with the Chipstead Flower Show and has supported local charities since the first race in 1989.

The proceeds from this year’s race will again be going to Dyscover, a charity based at Walton on the Hill which helps people with dysphasia.

This year was the Flower Show’s Centenary and was very well attended and had over 270 finishers in the seven mile race.

Other SLH finishers were: 8th Glenn Quarton (mv50) 41.50; 9th Phil Scarles (mv40) 41.56; 10th Tony Harran (mv40) 42.10; 11th Alex Halpin 42.12; 14th Paul Hone (mv40) 42.49; 15th Mark Burtwell 43.29; 19th Bob Harrison (mv50) 44.05; 21st Paul Mitchell (mv40) 44.18); 24th Francis Upcott (mv50) 45.01); 26th Robin Holmes (mv40) 45.30 and 28th Martin Mabbutt (mv50) 45.36). Clare Settle was 59th in 49.20, Viv Mitchell (lv45) was 85th in 51.14, Caroline Cattini was 120th in 54.52 and Pam Iannella (lv45) was 122nd in 54.59.
