Luke Dorn has issued a rallying cry to his Harlequins RL teammates by insisting the Londoners will still make the Super League play-offs despite their awful recent form.

Dorn, who is targeting the visit of St Helens on Saturday to make his long-awaited return from a broken leg, has been sorely missed as Quins have endured a miserable five-game losing streak, capped by Sunday’s 38-16 loss at Catalan Dragons.

And the stand-off reckons there is still plenty of time for Quins to come good, with clashes against strugglers Hull, Salford and Bradford among the remaining fixtures.

He said: “When a few players went down injured, like myself and Rob Purdham, it was the start of a slippery slope for us.

“Players have had to play out of position and we have had too many men missing.

“But the injuries are starting to clear up and when you look past the St Helens game it is a pretty good run in for us.

“Yes we have had a bad run of form but it is not as though we have slipped down to 12th or something like that.

“We still have a game in hand (at home to Bradford) and if we win that we go fifth so it is not doom and gloom.

“There is no panic and we just need to get back to basics.”

Dorn was another frustrated spectator as the side crashed in France at the weekend despite scores from Luke Gale, Ryan Esders and Gareth Haggerty.

And he admits it has been a difficult time on the sidelines.

He added: “It has been really tough.

“The first week I was off we beat Hull KR and I thought everything would be OK but it has all gone wrong from there.

“It is very frustrating just sitting there and not being able to contribute.

“But I have had a couple of training sessions now and things are looking good for Saturday.

“I am really aiming for this week but at the moment it is still touch and go.”

Quins will face a St Helens side seething after a 24-22 defeat at home to Wakefield last weekend, and with the Saints having triumphed in 11 of their last 12 trips to the capital Dorn admits it will be no easy task.

The Australian added: “It is not great for us that they lost last week as they will be fired up to put that right.

“But they have a few injury problems of their own and we have to go into the game thinking we can win.”
