Triple Olympic champion Usain Bolt thrilled the crowds at Crystal Palace this evening, winning the 100m in a canter at 9.92 seconds.
In day when it emerged five Jamaican athletes tested positive for banned substances at the recent national trials, Bolt ignored all the talk to stride away and win easily into a strong headwind.
“I was ready for that race and I’m always ready to race,” he said afterwards.
“When I get to the start line I know what I am there to do and I concentrate on that.
“My start wasn’t the best but I am improving and I know I have more work to do.
“I am in really good shape right now and I don’t see any reason to run myself out.
“I’m just glad I got through the race injury free and Crystal Palace is just a great place to run and the fans have been fantastic.”
Pole vaulter Kate Dennison won $5000 for setting a British record of 4.58m, her eighth this year, in an event that was surprisingly won by Polish vaulter Anna Rogowska ahead of Yelena Isinbayeva.
Twickenham-based Mo Farah won the 5,000m but the strong winds prevented him getting close to the British record he wanted.
Sutton’s Andy Turner finished third in the 110m hurdles while Harry Aikines-Aryeetey missed out on the final of the men’s 100m.
Croydon Harrier Donna Fraser had tears in her eyes after finishing second in the women’s 400m in what will be her last appearance at Crystal Palace before she retires next month.
