On Sunday, Andy Stalley, Allan Rumbles and Steve Cooney took the somewhat shorter journey to Clayton in West Sussex for the Downland Challenge 30 mile Ultra marathon. Starting near the bottom of the infamous Ditchling Beacon the runners first task was to climb that massive hill!
Andy ran very well and finished in 6th place in a time of 4 hour 23 minutes, well inside his Course Best time of 4 hour 46 minutes. Steve was only 5 minutes behind and finished in 13th place in a time of 4 hour 28 minutes.
This was another Course Best by 45 minutes. Allan finished in a time of 5 hour 17 minutes having had a particularly hard couple of weeks training and racing elsewhere.
At the same location there was also a 5.5-mile Challenge that Andy’s wife Gill Stalley entered. This tough run involved running up Ditchling Beacon twice and she finished in a fine time of one hour 07 minutes.
