David Lloyd Raynes Park won both boys’ and girls’ U12 Aegon Team Tennis Premier Finals at the National Tennis Centre, writes Caroline Ash.
The girls team of Jasmine Asghar, Emily Boden, Lauren Horsford, Bolor Enkhbayer and Sara Howard met some tough opposition in the knockout stages and beat the highly rated Bolton Academy in the final.
The boys - Nicholas Nugent, Freddie McGeehan, Omari Maxwell, Alistair Gray, Jake Davies and Max Battista also had some strong opponents, especially Bath (a full-time academy) in the semi final.
A nailbiting final saw the boys go 3-1 down but they fought back with some fantastic doubles play to make it 3 rubbers all.
A 10 point tie break decider was then played and the Raynes Park boys won 10-7 and were crowned champions to rapturous applause from their supporters.
Ronnie Maxwell, director of performance Tennis at David Lloyd, Raynes Park said, “We are absolutely delighted.
“Our performance tennis at David Lloyd is fantastic and all our players work really hard throughout the year.
“The teams work well together with great spirit and support. For us to win both girls and boys is just a phenomenal achievement.”
