Teddington-based Mo Farah will not make another attempt at the UK 5000m record this season after blustery conditions at Crystal Palace last Friday denied him the chance in front of his home crowd.

The 26-year-old sprinted home to win the race in a season's best 13 minutes 9.14 seconds ahead of Kenyan Sammy Mutahi, but was still nine seconds behind the 27-year-old record set by David Moorcroft he wanted to break.

"I wanted a British record but I knew as I warmed up it wasn't on, the conditions were too bad," he said afterwards.

"I am not thinking about fast times any more.

"It was this race where I wanted to do it, in front of the home crowd in England but it didn't happen because of the conditions.

"My aim was to just try to win it and I was really happy with that.

"I wanted to use this as a stepping stone towards the World Championships and use the right tactics and think about trying to win rather than run a fast time.

"I would have been nice to have run quicker but obviously conditions were bad so it was nice just to win.

"I had a lot left but I just have to use it in the right manner."

Farah, who ran a personal best in the 1500m in Monaco on Tuesday night, will now turn his attentions to the World Championships in Berlin next month where he will be hoping to improve on his sixth place finish from two years ago.

"I know I am in great shape so my aim is to go out to the Worlds and do the best I can," he said.

"I have the experience from a couple of years ago but every race is different.

"For me my aim is to get through the heat and get to the final and then see what happens.

"You can't think, 'oh I finished sixth a couple of years ago I am going to do better', nothing is easy, you have to go and work hard and get it right."
