Teddington opener James Keightley made sure his side took full advantage of a solid bowling display to put Winchmore Hill to the sword on Saturday and keep their Middlesex County League title hopes alive.
Keightley, who has nearly 600 league runs to his name this season, smashed 58 at the top of the order to ensure skipper Toby Bailey’s men successfully chased Winchmore’s 175 all out for the loss of just five wickets.
Earlier, Paul Dancy followed his seven wicket haul last weekend with 3-52 and - assisted by Duncan Wood’s 3-32 - ensured Teddington were never in real trouble against thier relegation hosts.
The victory leavesTeddington 21 points behind leaders Ealing, who they are still to welcome to Bushy Park this summer, while Winchmore failed to put any more distance between them and bottom club Richmond.
Skipper Phil Stephenson’s men were thrashed by nine-wickets at home to Stanmore on Saturday to leave them 15 points adrift off safety after Nick Alexander’s 68 and 45 from Simon Elliott had helped them to 212 for eight at Old Deer Park.
The visitors had an unbeaten 140 from Omar Anwar to thank for a comfortable win that leaves Richmond looking down the barrell of a swift return to Division Two, where neighbours Twickenham look well placed to replace them.
Ts overseas star James Munting claimed 6-35 and opening bowling partner Justin Scriven 4-35 as they dismissed second-placed Acton for 88.
The run chase was not a forgone conclusion as captain Carlos Nunes’ side stuttered to the win with seven wickets down, to leapfrog their hosts in the table.
In Division Three, Barnes dispatched struggling Wembley after Ed Craig (4-15) and Guy Rowley (4-25) helped dismiss their hosts for 130, before the visitors rapped up the victory with three wickets down.
