Two youngsters from Teddington Swimming Club swam at the National Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
James Stanhope finished seventh in the 100m butterfly, having qualified in fifth position in the heats. His time was just 1.2 seconds outside a medal place.
Earlier this year, Stanhope won the London Youth Games and county butterfly events and took silver in the London regions.
Meanwhile, Alex Lloyd finished 37th in the 100m front crawl, probably the most fiercely competed event, recording a long course personal best of 57.31.
