Three-times world medallist and Olympic diver Blake Aldridge broke two world records at the World High Diving Federation (WHDF) European Cliff Diving Championships last Saturday.

The 26-year-old, who trains in Southampton, broke the record for the highest degree of difficulty over three dives and the hardest dive ever on one dive alone at the Championships in Switzerland.

Blake said: “My dives in the Championships were from a height of 20 metres. I was delighted with my total score of 326.700 points and was amazed to learn that I had broken two world records.

“My result also means that I will be automatically selected for the World Cliff Diving Championships in October.”

The WHDF European Cliff Diving Championships are held every year in Ponte Brolla, which is located in the Maggia Valley in Ticino in Switzerland. Athletes can dive from 13, 15 or 20 metres into the Maggia River and are awarded points for their dives by five judges.

Blake, who competed alongside team mate 14-year-old Tom Daley in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, added: “I was unable to attend the British Diving Championships this year due to an injury, so I am particularly happy that I did so well in this competition.”
