South London Harriers held the last of this summer’s informal 10km races on Farthing Downs on Thursday and there were 123 finishers, writes Viv Gardner.
Phil Sanger from Epsom and Ewell won the race in 36 minutes and 33 seconds, with SLH’s Matt Chapman second in 37.23, followed by a further seven members from the home club.
They were Paul Hone 27.35, Jim Burdett 37.59, Mark Burtwell 38.11, Ben Pearce 38.34, David Ogden 38.42, David Baker 38.44 and Dan Gillett 38.47.
Andy Statham from Oxted Runners broke the chain with 38.54 and then Daniel Sellman and Ian Kitching from SLH followed in 38.59 and 39.21 respectively.
First woman to finish was Beckie Woodland from SLH in 40.59 with Sophie Cowper second in 43.09. Ruth Hutton was third in 43.56.
SLH’s Dave Newland was first over 60 finisher in 47.21.
South London Harriers’ men won their final Southern League Track and Field match at Battersea on Saturday, ensuring them of a top four finish in the league for this season.
They finished with 116 points, ahead of Medway and Maidstone with 88.5, Horsham Blue Star with 73.5 and Serpentine with 38.
