Elmbridge Rugby Club’s U14s are in training for this year’s Tri-for-Life triathlon, which takes place at Dorney Lake, Windsor, next month.

The youngsters have been training at Liquid Leisure in Slough and will be raising money for nine different charities at the event on September 6.

They will join rugby legend Lawrence Dallaglio and former Wimbledon footballer Robbie Earle.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s triathlon will provide participants with the opportunity to compete alongside England champion Laurence Dallaglio and football pundit Robbie Earle.

Tri-for-life, an organisation established to raise money for charities through competing in triathlons, is hosting the event at Dorney Lake near Eton, Windsor - a 2012 Olympic venue. Both adults and young people will be able to participate at the event, with a choice of a short or long distance race, or a ‘scootathlon’ for children between the ages of four and eight.

Tri-for-life raises funds for nine different charities and have this year formed partnerships with a number of charities, The Emily Ash Trust being one.

Commentating on his involvement, Lawrence Dallaglio said: “This is going to be a very unique event – allowing participants to be part of a team and connecting charities by a common goal. I wish everyone involved the best of luck and I look forward to being part of the winning team!”

Robbie Earle commented: “The idea of the Tri for Life event is so exciting – being able to have fun, compete and raise money not only for a range of charities but especially The Emily Ash Trust of which I am personally involved. I’m really looking forward to taking part in the event and seeing everyone gathered at Dorney Lake. The boys from Elmbridge Rugby Club have been training hard, every Sunday at 6am Liquid Leisure Datchet, with thanks to Mike Trees of 2XU who has supplied the boys with wetsuits and Richard Stannard (4 x world champion) training tips !”

Now in its second year, the event is run by premier Triathlon event organisers Human Race, which aims to make challenge events more accessible to novices as well as experienced athletes.

The triathlon provides the opportunity to compete individually, conquering all three disciplines, or as part of a three person relay team, each completing one of the three activities - bike ride, swim or run. The shorter distance consists of a 400m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.

The longer distance consists of a 800m swim, 30km cycle and 7.5km run.
