Croydon Harrier Donna Fraser does not believe she will ever be happy with her career as she prepares to bow out of athletics.
The 36-year-old was not included in the GB team for the World Championships in 10 days time and will run her final race at Gateshead on August 31.
Since coming fourth in the Sydney Olympics in 2000, the 400m runner has bern besieged by a catalogue of injuries and never returned to her best form.
"I don't think I will ever be happy," she said.
"Hence why I kept on going because I thought if I could get back I could get back to my best.
"But the injuries got in my way and that chips away at your fitness and you lose confidence and start doubting yourself and it's an uphill struggle "In hindsight I just think about that one session when my achilles went and ask why didn't I stop earlier?
"At the end of the day it made me a stronger person and I learned a lot about myself."
