Hercules Wimbledon are hoping to win a place in the British Athletics League – despite a poor performance in their final Southern Men’s League match of the season.
They finished fifth in Division One in their first season in the top flight for a decade, even though they were last at Bracknell on Saturday.
The club is submitting an application to compete in the British Athletics League qualifier at Abingdon on September 19 and Hercules hope to join Belgrave, Herne Hill and Kingston & Polytechnic in the national league.
Team captain Steve Davies went crashing in the sprint hurdles when leading his race, eventually finishing last.
The other hurdler, Olly Stogdale, who clocked 15.8 to win on his league debut at Woking earlier in the season, lost his stride pattern and also trailed in last.
Sprinter Dwayne Dowding won the 400m (51 seconds), but was hampered by cramp and limped home on the final leg of the 4x400m relay.
Their other winners were Royden John, in the long jump (6.80m), and Adam Przedrzymirski, in the B 5,000m.

Serpentine face relegation to Division Two after finishing last in their final match at Battersea Park.
Their only success came in the 1,500m, where Richard Phillips and Nicholas Torry won the A and B races.

St Mary’s Richmond finished as runners-up in their Division Two match at Basingstoke.
Paul Derrien won the shot, discus and hammer, while there were B wins for Jamie Lee (shot and discus) and Neil Jennings (hammer).
Grant Bridgman and Jennings took maximum points in the javelin.

Walton finished fifth at Parliament Hill Fields, although sprint hurdlers Adam McCarthy and Julian Langley won their races.

Herne Hill Harriers won their final Division Three South match at Parliament Hill to win the divisional title and gain promotion to Division Two.
