Andrew Raitt was the only player to break par as he wrapped up a convincing win at the Surrey PGA Championship, writes David Clark.
The PGA South Region Order of Merit leader signed for rounds of 68 and 69 at Effingham Golf Club to finish five-under-par.
That was five shots better than runner-up Ben St John as the St Georges Hill golfer continued his impressive form this season. Craig Cowper of World of Golf was third on one-over.
“It was a windy day,” said Raitt. “I kept it in play off the tee and was quite happy.
“It was windy and there is quite a lot of thick rough out there. I only lost one ball all day when I made a triple-bogey on 11 in the afternoon.
“But I had a good run in the morning when I hit three iron shots close in a row, which gave me a score in the morning and I just sort of held on in the afternoon.”
Raitt revealed that he had exceeded his own expectations for the year, having dominated the Order of Merit since the early stages.
“It’s gone pretty well, much better than I expected,” he added.
“If I can play alright the last couple of weeks it would be a nice thing to win.”
