The 20th RunKingston on Sunday, October 11 is set to be the biggest yet according to organisers Human Race Events.
The first event, personally organised by race director John Lunt, took place in 1990 with a handful of runner taking part in what was the Kingston Marathon.
Twenty years on, the event is now a firm fixture in the racing calendar and attracts thousands of runners each year for either the 16 mile or 8.2 mile race options.
The flat, and extremely scenic route, follows the Thames along the towpath, taking in Hampton Court Palace and Thames Ditton before returning to Kingston Town Centre.
The race is flat and very fast, and the ideal warm up for an Autumn marathon, especially New York or Dublin which come only three weeks later. Accurate mile markers and plenty of Lucozade Sport en-route, provide an opportunity for perfect pacing and race preparation.
Many runners will be raising vital funds for the official charity, Leukemia Research, and running as part of the ‘Banana Army’ team. Ambassador for Leukemia Research, Alistair Campbell, is a regular RunKingston participant, alongside Olympians James Cracknell and Tim Brabants who have both taken part in recent years.
The early 8am start, means that after the race is finished there’s plenty of time for runners to enjoy the shopping facilities and historical attractions that Kingston-Upon-Thames has to offer, making it a great day out for all the family.
With only four weeks until the big day, entries are filling fast and there are only a few remaining places available. Entry costs only £21 (8.2 miles) or £23 (16 miles) and all runners receive a medal. For more information and to enter online go to www.humanrace.co.uk
