Harlequins RL have boosted their ranks with the signing of Oliver Wilkes from fellow Super League side Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

The 29-year-old has signed a two-year deal at the Stoop, and brings with him a wealth of experience after spells at Huddersfield Giants, Wigan Warriors and Wakefield.

His consistent performances throughout 2008 led to his selection for Scotland’s World Cup squad, and he played an instrumental role, scoring the winning try in their victory over Fiji.

Wilkes is delighted to have joined the capital outfit, and said: “I’m very excited about my move to London with Harlequins. I’ve been an admirer of Brian McDermott for a long time now and the set-up at the club is first class.

“I’m looking forward to furthering my own career and helping to develop rugby league in London.”

Head coach McDermott added: “Wilkes has been a consistent performer in Super League for a number of years and we’re very pleased he’s chosen Harlequins.

“In Wilkes we have signed a very athletic and fit player to add to our already hard-working pack.”
