Croydon Harriers' Kariym Irving, a first year U20, gave further indication of his potential as a multi eventer last weekend when he finished eighth of 38 athletes in the decathlon in the English Schools Championship at Bedford.
His score of 6,018 points, a new club record, is the more exciting since he is in his first months of pole vaulting, and needs to work on his 400m and 1500m.
The John Fisher student top scored in his favourite discus, earning 772 points with a throw of 45.23m.
His crisp 100m hurdles run in 16.6sec also topped the 700 point mark.
Meanwhile, Harriers fielded two teams in this 4x4k event at Sparrows Den on Saturday.
The club A team brought home with a 14:18 finishing flourish by James Buchanan closed in a respectable 16th of 47 teams, while the B team aided by even faster 14:06 Buchanan input placed 33rd.
This coming weekend the Croydon young athletes will be competing in the South of England Road Relay Championships.
