Matt Daly scored all four goals as Surbiton won 4-3 at Bowdon on Sunday to get their 2009-10 National Premier Division campaign off to a stunning start.
The 26-year-old England international dragflicker rifled home unstoppable shots from all but two of the penalty corners his team forced.
It was just as well for the Long Ditton-based visitors since their Cheshire hosts scored from all three penalty corners that they forced and led 3-1at the interval.
Daly slammed home his lethal bullets to all corners of the Bowdon net past the keeper and four defenders on the line, with the exception of his fourth attempt, which was kept out illegally at the expense of another penalty corner, from which Daly made no mistake.
Tomorrow, Surbiton, who finished fifth in England’s 10-team elite league last season, are away again, this time in London (Paddington Rec, 2pm) where they play Hampstead & Westminster.
Also on Saturday (11.30am) Surbiton Ladies begin their 2009-10 league campaign at home to Rover Oxford, who were relegated from the England Hockey League Conference East via relegation play-offs.
Last season, Surbiton won the South Clubs’ Women’s Hockey League Division Two to reach Division One this season, from which the top side will automatically be promoted to the appropriate national conference division.
