Twickenham Brunswick entered a select group of players into the Chesham 2* Tournament this weekend which saw a high quality field of top England ranked junior players from the south of England gathered to enhance their status in the England rankings.
David Rahbani, a thirteen year old pupil at St Mark’s School Hounslow, showed off his future potential and threw the form book out the window, as in game after game he dispatched some top England ranked players.
In the last round of the U14 age group David recovered from going 2 sets down to beat Daniel McTiernen 3-2, ranked 10 in England at U13 to finish 8th out of 21 players.
In the U15 age group after an initial loss in his first round group against Jack Hawthorn 32 in England at U15, he went on to beat Jack Collings from Gloucester ranked 27 at U.13.
His next two opponents were Daniel Lawrence and Daniel Wright ranked 16 and 30 respectively at U.13.
In two outstanding matches David displayed a maturity in controlling his attacking instinct to counter their speed and power recovering from being sets down to win 3-2 and 3-1.
In his third round of matches David again won comfortably against C. Baines and S. Dowsett ranked 56 and 62 respectively in the Cadets David Rahbani in a matter of a couple of hours had conquered four of the top thirty players in the England U.13 rankings and defeated two cadet players ranked a hundred places above him.
Tom Bell, Jack Tubby and Charlie Rahbani performed well in their respective age groups often matching top quality players point for point, eventually being defeated but by no means outclassed.
