Staines stock car driver Adrian Blackwell had a red-letter day at Arena Essex Raceway on Sunday as he raced to points scoring places in all four BriSCA F2 races for the first time in his 10-year career.
Additionally, he walked away with his highest single-meeting points haul as top scoring C grade driver of the day.
The opening heat saw British Airways IT worker Blackwell take the lead early on, but a good hit from Luke Phillips just before the mid-point relegated him to second.
Later in the race, he was caught by the flying red-top superstar graded drivers Mick Sworder, David Polley and George Turiccki, but held off the rest of the field for a fifth place finish.
Heat two saw Blackwell establish a good early lead, but in a twist of fate when lapping the struggling National Points leader Polley, the superstar unexpectedly fenced Blackwell exiting turn two.
The force was enough to bend the rear panhard bar, but more importantly the brake pedal, so much so that Blackwell was unable to accelerate without simultaneously depressing the brakes, but he still managed to finish ninth.
Blackwell led off the meeting final before being caught and passed by Phillips again.
Phillips’ lead was short lived as he retired with engine issues, handing it back to Blackwell.
On the big fast flat track the red-top superstar train eventually hit the front, but Blackwell had enough speed to follow them home for a second fifth-placed finish of the day.
The early laps of the all-comers Grand National event saw a good tussle between Blackwell, Phil Williams and Will Cobley.
Blackwell eventually moved clear of the others but had been delayed sufficiently to allow eventual winner Ian Chalkley and Turiccki to catch and pass him in the latter stages.
The final few laps saw red-top Pete Robertson close in, but Blackwell was able to keep enough of a gap to evade a last bend lunge and hold on for a third place finish.
Blackwell said: “The Grand National had to be the most satisfying race of the day, not because a third was the best finish, but because the car was going really well.
“Someone put a load of oil down at the end of the home straight so I had to adapt my line going in to the bend, but I was still able to make good times.
“Pete [Robertson] closed me down in the latter stages but he was never able to get close enough.
“After the troubles here at the start of the year, to score in four from four and get my highest ever meeting total is really pleasing.
“We have all worked hard for this so it's nice to see we've made some progress through the year.”
Blackwell’s remaining meetings are at Northampton on Sunday, October 18, and Arena Essex on Sunday, October 25.
